MacAloonJohn J. MacAloon is Professor of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. He has specialized for over four decades in anthropological and historical research on the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement. His most recent book is Bearing Light: Flame Relays and the Struggle for the Olympic Movement. He served as an executive committee member of the IOC 2000 Reform Commission and as an adviser to the IOC Agenda 2020 reform project that created the current regime of Olympic bidding. He was a member of the Chicago 2016 and New York 2012 Olympic candidatures and has advised other bid and organizing committees around the world. Professor MacAloon has been awarded the Olympic Order for his scholarly and diplomatic achievements in Olympic affairs.
